Savour Elora Fergus is our promise of local food at its best. We support our thriving local food culture by partnering with growers and microprocessors, retailers and restaurants, to offer both visitors and residents something very special.
In culinary circles, the flavour of regional foods is sometimes called ‘terroir’. It means “of the earth” and has in the past typically been used in reference to the flavours in wines.
But it is now also a term acknowledging the sense of place in the taste of our foods, which can be quite different from one region to the next. The same foods can differ in taste—sometimes subtly, sometimes distinctly —due to soils, watersheds and local climate.
Recipes to Experience is your guide to the agricultural diversity of this region, and the simple goal of Savour Elora Fergus is to share with you our passion for putting more local foods on local plates. So come savour that experience. Bon Appétit!
And while you’re here, be sure to pick up a copy of our Guelph Wellington Local Food Map. This annually-produced guide to culinary and agri-tourism experiences connects you to more than 100 local farms, markets, retailers, restaurants and caterers that sell farm-fresh food throughout the region.
Produced by the Guelph Wellington Local Food Initiative, it features details of the Wellington Rural Romp that takes place every year in late September, and much more. Maps are available at our information centres in Fergus and Elora, and locations throughout Wellington County.
